Peri Uran Murphy is a Professor of Constitutional Law. She holds a Ph.D from Ankara University Law School. Her doctoral dissertation , entitled “Bicameral System as the Fulfillment of Legislative Function and Its Role in Turkish Political History”received “2009 Young Social Scientist Award” from Turkish Social Science Association. She has been a postdoctoral researcher at various internationally renowned institutions, including Columbia University Law School, New York University (NYU) Politics Department, City University of New York (Graduate School), Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law and Trinity College Dublin’s School of Law & TriCON. Between 2009-2014, she was granted research scholarships by the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK) and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK) for her research projects. In addition to her academic work, Prof. Uran Murphy serves as Legal Consultant to an NGO affiliated with the United Nations(WCPUN/ New York) and has been invited to participate as an expert in various UN related meetings.
Prof. Uran Murphy’s research and publications focus on a wide range of topics in constitutional theory, comparative constitutional law, and human rights. Her scholarly work addresses issues including judicial independence, bicameralism, governmental systems, emergency powers, constitution making in democracies, the role and significance of the dissenting opinion in constitutional review, the preambles of the constitutions, children and animal rights. Her areas of expertise also include the jurisprudence and approaches of the European Court of Human Rights and the US Supreme Court particularly in relation to freedom of expression, discrimination against children, the best interests of the child and parents’ rights on home education (homeschooling), the right to be forgotten and human dignity.
