As the Applied English Translation Program, our mission is to train individuals who can effectively use both Turkish and English in written and spoken communication, capable of performing mutual translation in scientific, technical, and social fields. These individuals will be research-oriented, inquisitive, and aware of social responsibility and ethical values.

Vision:

As the Applied English Translation Program, our goal is to raise individuals who have a modern worldview, can use Turkish and English correctly, communicate on both national and international platforms, and have the ability to translate across various disciplines. We aim to become the highest quality and most preferred department in Turkey.

Profile of Program

The Applied English Translation Program is a four-semester higher education program aimed at training individuals who are proficient in the English language—now a global language that has become one of the fundamental elements of communication—within the context of modern and universal values. The program targets individuals who will be able to facilitate mutual communication in both English and Turkish, and perform both oral and written translations in various fields, thus meeting both national and international needs.

The program ensures that students remain committed to ethical and social values and aims to:

  • Equip them with knowledge about the structural and functional uses of the English and Turkish languages, as well as translation methods and techniques,

  • Develop their problem-solving skills using scientific foundational knowledge,

  • Enhance their abilities in communication, collaboration, inquiry, and taking responsibility,

  • Support their professional and personal development throughout their lives.

Learning  Atmosphere

The education and teaching are conducted in a formal manner. Due to the sufficient technological resources, distance education methods are also partially applied. In addition, practical training is provided through research centers and other units within the University
Program Outputs (Qualifications)

A student who completes the program:

  1. Can understand the linguistic, lexical, semantic, and syntactic structures of English and Turkish and the differences between these languages, and can use these structures to communicate in writing and speaking.

  2. Develops himself/herself in English and Turkish by constantly following the agenda, conducting research, and reading, increases his/her terminology vocabulary, approaches different opinions objectively, and thus acquires the lifelong learning skill.

  3. Defines the basic concepts in the field of translation and, by explaining translation-specific theories, techniques, and methods, can adapt them to the translation process.

  4. Acquires theoretical and practical basic knowledge related to translation, such as the fundamentals of translation science, written and oral translation techniques, composition writing, sectoral translation, technical and scientific translation applications.

  5. Identifies different texts and text types, solves texts using them, and applies the results obtained to the translation process.

  6. Can use computer-assisted translation programs, term banks, spelling and grammar checkers, terminology databases, and software and hardware developed specifically for this field by information technologies in all translation processes, and can follow developments in these areas.

  7. Can identify problems they may encounter in written and oral translation, using translation techniques, develop solutions, share these solutions with the parties involved, and if necessary, form a team and take responsibility for this purpose.

  8. Gains and develops professional and ethical responsibility awareness by participating in applied activities in different fields.

  9. Can collect information and data with a critical perspective to conduct research in different areas of expertise, analyze the data, evaluate the results, and create a project based on this information and present it orally.

  10. Is aware of the effects of cultural structures in different geographical areas where English and Turkish are spoken on language and the translation process, and can use this awareness in the translation process.

Measurement and Evaluation Methods

Ölçme ve değerlendirme yöntemleri; sınav çeşitleri ve bunların ders başarı notuna katkısı, Çağ Üniversitesi Ön Lisans ve Lisans Eğitim Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği hükümleri ve Senato kararları belirlenir.

Ölçme ve değerlendirmede ödev, proje, uygulama, ara sınav ve dönem sonu sınavı gibi farklı yöntemler kullanılır.

Öğrenci başarısının değerlendirilmesinde harf ve/veya rakama dayalı not verme sistemleri kullanılır.

Quality Assurance

To monitor the quality of higher education programs;

- CoHE is responsible for planning, organizing, managing and supervising the education and training and other activities carried out in higher education institutions.

- "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" of higher education institutions prepared every year within the framework of criteria determined by CoHE are published. Reports containing quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions prepared according to these reports are also shared with the public by CoHE

- The “Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report” is published each year by the CoHE, which includes academic, administrative and financial data on foundation higher education institutions. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by the CoHE 

The quality assurance of the court clerical services Associate Degree Program is provided as follows:

CoHE determines the minimum standards and criteria required for opening associate and undergraduate programs in higher education institutions.

The curriculum of associate and undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to students are determined by the Çağ University Senate in accordance with the basic principles determined by the CoHE on these issues.

Measurement-Evaluation:

The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes that the Program will provide to the student is carried out according to the Çağ University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulation, which was prepared in accordance with the basic principles determined by the CoHE on these issues.

Certification:

Students enrolled in the Program receive an associate degree/undergraduate diploma when they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions.

Self-Assessment and External Assessment:

In the context of continuous monitoring, Çağ University enters the “Internal Institutional Evaluation Reports” of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the “Institutional Feedback Report” prepared by YÖKAK regarding the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions given by accreditation institutions authorized or recognized by YÖKAK also show that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programs is provided. YÖKAK carries out regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the legislation.

Enrolling Requirements To be enrolled in Çağ University Court Clerical Services Program as a result of the central exam conducted by ÖSYM.
Conditions for Qualification The graduation requirements for the Applied English Translation Program are specified in the Associate and Bachelor’s Degree Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations of Çağ University. Accordingly, students must pass all the courses listed in the curriculum with at least a DD letter grade, and achieve a minimum overall GPA of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale to be eligible for graduation.
Further Advantages Graduates of the Applied English Translation Associate Degree Program can apply to bachelor's degree programs based on the results of the Vertical Transfer Exam (Dikey Geçiş Sınavı) conducted by ÖSYM.

AET-129 Introduction to Translation
This course introduces the history, basic norms, and theories of translation. After an introduction to the history of translation, students will develop a perspective on translation theories, with the expectation of gaining a deeper understanding of the translation process and the product.

 

TRK-103 Turkish I
Covers the definition and features of the Turkish language, language-culture relationships, classification of languages, historical development of the Turkish language, and grammar, including phonology, spelling rules, punctuation, and correspondence guidelines.

 

TRK-104 Turkish II
Focuses on oral and written expression, including activities such as presentations, reading and analyzing novels, stories, essays, poetry, and newspaper reviews, as well as developing skills in grammar, punctuation, and types of written and oral expression.

 

AET-123 Comparative Grammar I
Introduces the differences and similarities between English and Turkish grammar structures, promoting awareness of their usage in translation, while ensuring that all studies are conducted within context.

Expands on the comparative study of the grammatical structures of English and Turkish, emphasizing the functional usage and translation challenges that arise from these structures.

 

BLG-101 Digital Literacy
Focuses on developing basic computer skills and becoming digitally literate, with an emphasis on MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), ensuring students can use these tools effectively in their professional lives.

 

AET-125 Reading Skills
Aims to develop higher-level reading skills such as understanding various viewpoints, predicting main ideas, and identifying key concepts using contextual clues in texts. The course also aims to instill reading habits.

Enhances students' listening and comprehension abilities through various audio materials and academic presentations, as well as developing skills such as note-taking and extracting meaning from context.

BLG-101 - Digital Literacy

The course aims to remind students of and use well-known, everyday expressions and very basic phrases that aim to meet students' concrete needs, and also to enable students to answer questions that include personal details such as the things they own, the people they know, where they live, ask questions, introduce themselves and other people, and ultimately to communicate slowly and clearly with the other person.

This course covers the definition and characteristics of language, the relationship between language and culture, classification of languages and the place of Turkish among world languages, the historical development of the Turkish language, Turkey Turkish, phonetics, and phonological processes in Turkish, spelling rules, punctuation marks, and writing conventions. Rhetoric and composition rules are also taught both theoretically and practically to ensure the appropriate and coherent expression of ideas and emotions.

This course focuses on the simplification process of Turkish, phonological changes, structural features, spelling and punctuation rules, and the characteristics of written and oral expression. It also aims to equip students with the skills necessary to write formal petitions through instruction on relevant conventions.

TAR-203 - Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms I

This course analyzes the reasons for the failure of reforms in the late Ottoman Empire and their influence on Atatürk’s reforms. It introduces ideologies such as Turkism, Islamism, Ottomanism, Westernism, and Socialism. The course also examines the War of Independence led by Mustafa Kemal as a process to end occupations and establish a nation-state based on national sovereignty.


TAR-204 - Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms II

This course is a continuation of HIS-203, reinforcing knowledge about the failures of late Ottoman reforms and their effects on Atatürk’s transformations. The course continues to explore national ideologies and the role of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in leading the War of Independence and establishing the Turkish Republic.


ISL-218 - Entrepreneurship and Leadership

This course focuses on concepts of entrepreneurship, characteristics of entrepreneurs, success factors in entrepreneurship, and leadership roles and skills. It includes developing a business idea and preparing a business plan based on case studies and success stories. The course also provides information on entrepreneurship support mechanisms such as KOSGEB and TÜBİTAK and enables students to obtain a certificate in entrepreneurship.

The theoretical part of the course addresses the conceptual and historical background of business ethics and social responsibility. The practical part involves preparing a sample social responsibility project.
