Mission:

In response to the existing and emerging social issues within changing and evolving conditions, the aim is to enhance the welfare of individuals, groups, and communities through interventions at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. This will be achieved by contributing to the development of social policies that are framed within the knowledge, skills, and values of social work, and by engaging in practical activities aimed at implementation. Additionally, the program seeks to train individuals who possess knowledge in social work theory, professional interviewing, and reporting, are well-versed in social work ethics and legislation, and have a high awareness of social issues. These individuals will be capable of providing solutions grounded in the principles of social justice and human rights, in accordance with the knowledge, skills, and values of social work, while conducting holistic analyses of social problems.

Vision:

To train qualified students with sufficient knowledge and skills to transition into undergraduate Social Work programs through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS), by providing both theoretical and practical education at the associate degree level in Social Work. Furthermore, the program aims to be one of the most preferred among associate degree Social Work programs, consistently ranking high in the number of students progressing to undergraduate studies through the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).

Program Profile The Social Services Program trains support staff for the administrative services of organizations, in line with contemporary and universal values, to work with disadvantaged individuals, families, and groups. Therefore, the program aims to develop a workforce that is knowledgeable about human psychology, proficient in techniques for interviewing disadvantaged individuals, and skilled in report writing.
Learning Environment Education and training are primarily conducted through face-to-face learning. Due to the adequacy of technological resources, distance education is also partially implemented. Additionally, practical training is provided through research centers and other units within the university.

Assessment and Evaluation Methods

The methods of assessment and evaluation, including the types of exams and their contribution to the course grade, are determined by the provisions of the Çağ University Associate and Bachelor’s Degree Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations, as well as Senate decisions.

Various methods such as assignments, final projects, internships, mid-term exams, and final exams are used in assessment and evaluation.

In evaluating student success, grading systems based on letters and/or numbers are utilized.

Quality Assurance

For ensuring the quality of higher education programs:

  • YÖK is responsible for the planning, organization, management, and supervision of education and other activities carried out at higher education institutions.

  • Every year, YÖK publishes the "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" for higher education institutions, based on the criteria set by YÖK. Reports containing both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, prepared according to these reports, are also shared with the public by YÖK.

  • YÖK publishes the "Private Higher Education Institutions Report" every year, which includes academic, administrative, and financial data of private higher education institutions. These reports, which contain both quantitative and qualitative evaluations of private higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

The quality assurance of the Social Services Associate Degree Program is provided as follows:

Creation and Approval of the Teaching Programs:

YÖK sets the minimum standards and criteria required for the establishment of associate and undergraduate programs at higher education institutions.

The curriculum of associate/undergraduate programs at higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to students are determined by the Senate of Çağ University, in accordance with the basic principles set by YÖK in this regard.

-Assessment and Evaluation:

The assessment and evaluation of the learning outcomes to be acquired by students in the Social Services Associate Degree Program is carried out in accordance with the basic principles set by YÖK and the Çağ University Associate and Undergraduate Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations prepared accordingly.

Certification:

Students enrolled in the Social Services Associate Degree Program, upon successfully completing the required course credits and other obligations set by the higher education institution, will receive an associate/undergraduate diploma.

Self-Assessment and External Evaluation:

Within the context of continuous monitoring, Çağ University enters the "Institutional Self-Assessment Reports" for the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the "Institutional Feedback Report" on the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. Additionally, accreditation decisions made by accreditation organizations authorized or recognized by YÖKAK demonstrate that the quality assurance of the programs' adequacy is ensured. YÖKAK also conducts regular reviews of the qualifications specified by the regulations set forth by YÖKAK.

 

Admission Requirements Being placed in the Social Services Program at Çağ University as a result of the central exam conducted by ÖSYM.
Conditions for Gaining the Qualification The graduation requirements for the Social Services Program are specified in the Çağ University Associate and Undergraduate Education, Teaching, and Examination Regulations. Accordingly, students must pass all courses in the curriculum with at least a DD letter grade and achieve a minimum overall GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 in order to graduate
Opportunities for Progression Graduates of the Social Services Associate Degree Program can apply to undergraduate programs based on the results of the Vertical Transfer Exam (Dikey Geçiş Sınavı) conducted by ÖSYM.

BLG-101 Digital Literacy

The aim of this course is to make students aware of the social and cultural impacts of the digital transformation process, familiarize them with advanced digital technologies and digital tools, and enable them to effectively use certain digital tools (MS Office Programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) in the learning environment. Additionally, students will become proficient in using the internet, applying information correctly, and acquiring up-to-date technological knowledge.

GIT101 Interview Principles and Techniques

This course aims to teach students how to communicate with disadvantaged groups during interviews in the social service field and to learn appropriate interview techniques.

TRK-103 Turkish I

This course covers the definition and features of language, the relationship between language and culture, the classification of languages, the place of Turkish among world languages, the historical development of the Turkish language, Turkish phonology, sound changes in Turkish, spelling rules, punctuation marks, and the rules related to writing. The course also focuses on rhetoric, writing rules, punctuation, and composition to help students express their thoughts and emotions coherently and appropriately.

SHP-101 Introduction to Social Services

This course aims to teach the historical development of social services as a science and profession, both in the world and in Turkey. It will also focus on evaluating social services in terms of democracy, human rights, and social justice. The course covers social service theory and practice, including the knowledge, values, and skills needed for problem-solving processes, interactions, specialists, clients, environments, intervention processes, data collection, problem identification, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. It also aims to instill an analytical perspective in students regarding social services.

ING-105 English Language Skills I

This course aims to motivate students with engaging and relevant reading texts and provide them with examples of target language knowledge and vocabulary. Grammar focuses on active participation in the learning process. Examples from texts are extracted and used as a foundation for tasks focusing on both content and formal aspects of the target language. Vocabulary is developed through exercises that put words into use. Listening, speaking, and reading skills are developed through opening texts. Writing skills provide students with the opportunity to control the language and create texts of different types.

PSY-105 Introduction to Psychology

This course provides students with a general and comprehensive introduction to the field of psychology. By the end of the course, students are expected to have developed an understanding of the main concepts and theories of psychology and the scientific examination of mental and behavioral processes.

Continuation of Turkish I course, further developing the linguistic and grammatical skills.

ING-106 English Language Skills II

This course continues from ING 105 and aims to help students recall sentences and frequently used expressions related to topics of personal interest (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, and employment). It also aims to enable students to describe basic issues and communicate in simple and direct information exchanges in routine tasks in familiar, everyday situations.

SHP-108 Social Psychology

This course introduces the basic concepts and theories of social psychology and discusses the issues related to the dominant scientific paradigms in social psychology and the opportunities provided by critical social psychology.

SHP-110 Social Service Practice with Children

This course focuses on fundamental concepts related to children, child-related issues, and the necessary social service interventions and practices for addressing these issues. By the end of the course, students will gain knowledge about concepts such as children in need of protection, legal regulations regarding children, child protection systems, and services and institutions for children.

SHP-112 Aging and Social Services

This course covers topics related to elderly psychology and mental health issues, biological and psychological aging, mental health problems in the elderly, insomnia, socialization issues, and mental illnesses associated with aging.

HUK-203 Introduction to Law

This course introduces students to legal concepts and legal thinking. It covers basic topics such as the purpose of legal rules, rights, types of rights, the acquisition, usage, protection, and loss of rights, sanctions of legal rules, public and private law distinction, sources of positive law, and the application of laws. The goal is to help students learn fundamental legal concepts and develop legal thinking skills.

TAR-203 History of Atatürk's Principles and Revolution I

This course provides a comprehensive look at the reasons behind the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Revolution, including reform movements in the Ottoman Empire during the 19th century, internal and external events during the disintegration of the Ottoman Empire, ideological movements in its last years, World War I, the signing of the Mondros Armistice, occupations, reactions, societies, and the organization of the national struggle through congresses.

SHP-201 Social Service Theories

This course aims to provide students with knowledge of the basic theories, approaches, and methodologies used in social service interventions, from theoretical perspectives.

ING-207 Professional English I

This course is the continuation of ING 105 and aims for students to use English at A2 level according to the European Language Portfolio. Students will be able to recall sentences and frequently used expressions related to topics of personal interest and engage in communication for basic and routine tasks requiring simple and direct information exchange.

SHP-211 Research Methods and Techniques in Social Services

The aim of this course is to teach students how to conduct scientific research and to become familiar with research processes in social services. It also aims to enable students to conduct research on social issues and develop practical solutions.

SHP-202 Social Service Legislation

This course introduces the basic concepts of social service legislation and its application at national and international levels. Students will learn about the relevant laws applied in areas such as family, women, the elderly, disabled, and children, and understand how to write social service reports based on these regulations.

TAR-204 History of Atatürk's Principles and Revolution II

This course covers the Turkish War of Independence, Atatürk’s reforms, and the Atatürkist thought system, along with the history of the Turkish Republic. It aims to provide correct information on the Atatürkist revolution, the principles of the Turkish Republic, and the national goals of Turkish youth.

SHP-206 Professional Ethics

This course discusses ethics, basic ethical concepts and principles, and the ethical challenges in social services related to children, women, men, individuals with different sexual orientations, and individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Topics include human rights and children’s rights.

Continuation of ING-207 with an emphasis on more advanced professional English language skills.

SHP-208 Social Problems and Social Services

This course provides students with knowledge about social problems, including unemployment, poverty, crime, addiction, aging, disability, migration, and issues related to women and children. Students will learn how social services address these problems and how solutions are developed within the context of social services.

ISL-218 Entrepreneurship and Leadership

This course provides theoretical insights into the concepts of entrepreneurship and leadership, aiming to help students understand their importance in the business world.

ISL-220 Social Responsibility and Business Ethics

This course introduces students to social responsibility and business ethics concepts and encourages them to engage in social responsibility projects to contribute to societal benefit.

The course aims to remind students of and use well-known, everyday expressions and very basic phrases that aim to meet students' concrete needs, and also to enable students to answer questions that include personal details such as the things they own, the people they know, where they live, ask questions, introduce themselves and other people, and ultimately to communicate slowly and clearly with the other person.

This course covers the definition and characteristics of language, the relationship between language and culture, classification of languages and the place of Turkish among world languages, the historical development of the Turkish language, Turkey Turkish, phonetics, and phonological processes in Turkish, spelling rules, punctuation marks, and writing conventions. Rhetoric and composition rules are also taught both theoretically and practically to ensure the appropriate and coherent expression of ideas and emotions.


TRK-104 - Turkish II

This course focuses on the simplification process of Turkish, phonological changes, structural features, spelling and punctuation rules, and the characteristics of written and oral expression. It also aims to equip students with the skills necessary to write formal petitions through instruction on relevant conventions.


ING-105 - English Language Skills I

This course aims to motivate students through engaging and relevant reading texts while providing examples of target grammar and vocabulary. Grammar is emphasized through active participation in the learning process. Selected texts serve as the basis for tasks focusing on both content and form. Vocabulary is developed through usage-based exercises. Listening, speaking, and reading skills are enhanced through introductory texts, while writing skills are improved by providing students with opportunities to control the language and create various types of written texts.

The course examines the function of law in society, compares legal rules with religious, customary, and moral norms, and addresses public-private law distinctions. It covers legal relations and rights, types of rights, right holders and subjects, acquisition and loss of rights, legal acts and transactions, and methods of protecting rights.


TAR-203 - Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms I

This course analyzes the reasons for the failure of reforms in the late Ottoman Empire and their influence on Atatürk’s reforms. It introduces ideologies such as Turkism, Islamism, Ottomanism, Westernism, and Socialism. The course also examines the War of Independence led by Mustafa Kemal as a process to end occupations and establish a nation-state based on national sovereignty.


TAR-204 - Atatürk’s Principles and History of Reforms II

This course is a continuation of HIS-203, reinforcing knowledge about the failures of late Ottoman reforms and their effects on Atatürk’s transformations. The course continues to explore national ideologies and the role of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in leading the War of Independence and establishing the Turkish Republic.
