GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE MASTER'S PROGRAM IN TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Foundation & Approval

Çağ University Institute of Social Sciences, 09.07.1997, 23050; Was established in accordance with Article 46. The Institute of Social Sciences was established with the approval of the Council of Higher Education to train teachers to specialize in their fields. The Turkish Language and Literature Master's Program was discussed at the General Assembly dated 12.09.2013 and it was decided to be opened within the Institute of Social Sciences with the letter 23.09.2013 - 51323-7134. Turkish Language and Literature Non-Thesis Master's Program was discussed at the Executive Board of YÖK on 15.06.2022 and it was decided to be opened within the Institute of Social Sciences.

Diplomas and Titles

Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded a Master's Degree in Turkish Language and Literature.

Teaching Objectives (Program Objectives)

1- To train individuals who have in-depth knowledge of New Turkish Language, Old Turkish Language, Classical Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Literature, Comparative Literature and Folklore.

2- To develop academic writing, research and presentation skills.

3- To train researchers who can deal with language, culture and literature relations in multiple ways.

4- To train experts who can make scientific contributions to national and international academic activities.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

1- Analyze the historical periods, structural features and development process of the Turkish language.

2- Recognizes the dialects of Türkiye Turkish and can examine them comparatively.

3- Can follow the literature related to the field and use it in academic studies in accordance with scientific ethical rules.

4- Can conduct independent research in the field and present the findings in the form of reports, theses or articles.

5- Have the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to participate in national and international academic activities in the field.

6- Recognize the basic sources of Classical Turkish Literature and use these sources in field studies.

7- Can examine and evaluate academic articles  written about ghazals and odes, which are verse forms of classical Turkish literature. He can annotate the texts of ghazals and odes. Can think about the change and development of these verse forms in the historical process.

8- Evaluates innovations in literature, analyzes modern Turkish literature texts in an academic context.

9- Adopts the concepts of folk culture and folk beliefs and establishes a connection with mythology.

10- Evaluates and develops the knowledge and experience gained in the field of expertise with a critical perspective.

11- Follows new developments in the field, evaluates them critically and has the awareness of continuous learning.

12- Analyzes and compares literary works from different cultures and periods within the framework of comparative literary theories; establishes interdisciplinary and intercultural literary relations.

13- Gains the competence to examine Turkish and World literatures comparatively.

Qualification Criteria

A student who wants to study in Turkish Language and Literature Master's Program with thesis or non-thesis must have completed a four-year undergraduate program in any department of a university with a national or international equivalent and get at least 55 grades from ALES. Special Admission Requirements

Students who have started their graduate program in other national and international programs may apply in accordance with the regulations of Çağ University and YÖK. For more information, please see Çağ University Student Admission Requirements.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal and Non-Formal)

Students enrolled in other universities may transfer to Çağ University after completing their first semester. All other courses with a passing grade and courses with the same content of other universities will be included in the exemption.

Profile of The Program

The aim of the program is to educate students who are conscious and critical in the field of Turkish Language and Literature.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples

Students who have completed the Master's Degree can work in government or private sectors. They are also employed as teachers or researchers at state or foundation universities. Students can continue their PhD programs if they wish.

Students who have successfully completed the Master's Degree Program with Thesis can continue their PhD programs if they wish.

Examination Regulations, Assesment and Grading

Generally, a midterm, a final exam and a term paper are given for each course. For detailed information, see the Examination Regulations.

Grade Point Average of a student must be at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and there will be no unsuccessful grade.
