Turkish Language and Literature Program Outcomes

A Student Completing the Program:

PO.1. Evaluates the texts of Turkish Language and Literature from their inception to the present day in terms of literary and philological aspects.
PO.2. Gains proficiency in the relevant literature of Turkish language, literature, and culture. Utilizes research methods and techniques used in this field.
PO.3. Studies the Turkish language in terms of phonetics, morphology, syntax, and semantics; achieves the ability to use Turkish accurately, beautifully, and clearly.
PO.4. Examines the historical development of the Turkish language within the context of texts; identifies their content, sound, form, and other linguistic features.
PO.5. Becomes knowledgeable about the development and changes of the Turkish language since its emergence as a written language in the earliest inscriptions.
PO.6. Acquires knowledge about the developmental stages, phonology/morphology, and vocabulary of historical and contemporary Turkish dialects.
PO.7. Gains knowledge in the fundamental topics of Old Turkish Literature such as the aruz meter, rhyme, refrain, and poetic forms. Recognizes its historical periods, poets/writers, and their works.
PO.8. Recognizes the general characteristics of historical texts, reads, and interprets them.
PO.9. Identifies the main characteristics of the periods in the history of Modern Turkish Literature; observes and evaluates new forms and themes, new literary language and imagery, from romanticism to realism, modernism to postmodernism, feminism to existentialist and psychoanalytic approaches; compares with the old and determines their effects on the subsequent period.
PO.10. Familiarizes closely with world literature and culture (gender roles, traditions, language, culture, etc.), and compares them with Turkish literature and culture. Compares literary texts of different nations.
PO.11. Recognizes the types and forms of Turkish folk literature from the beginning. Gains insights into the works of folk poets and writers over the centuries.
PO.12. Acquires basic knowledge of concepts, theories, and methods in folklore, recognizes, analyzes, and discusses the written and oral sources of Turkish cultural history.
PO.13. Develops the ability to perceive, critique, think, and evaluate how a literary text is analyzed.
PO.14. Knows Atatürk's Principles and Reforms; adopts the Atatürkian way of thinking.
PO.15. Creates, organizes, and shares information related to their field using information and internet technologies.
PO.16. Attains foreign language proficiency to read and understand works in English in their field.
PO.17. Conducts interdisciplinary studies using data from different social science disciplines to approach cultural activities comprehensively.
PO.18. Develops a positive attitude towards lifelong learning.
