Turkish Language and Literature Program Outcomes

A Student Completing the Program:

P.O.1. Evaluates the texts of Turkish Language and Literature from its origins to the present from literary and philological perspectives.

P.O.2. Acquires the necessary competence to master the relevant literature in the field of Turkish language, literature, and culture, and applies research methods and techniques used in this field.

P.O.3. Examines the Turkish language in terms of phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics, and develops the ability to use Turkish accurately, effectively, and clearly.

P.O.4. Gains knowledge about the development and transformation of Turkish as a written language from its earliest inscriptions to the present.

P.O.5. Studies the historical and contemporary dialects of Turkish within the framework of their historical development and identifies their linguistic features such as content, sound, form, and vocabulary.

P.O.6. Gains knowledge of fundamental aspects of Old Turkish Literature such as prosody (aruz), rhyme, redif, poetic forms, and literary devices; recognizes its historical periods, poets/writers, and works.

P.O.7. Recognizes the general characteristics of historical texts and reads and analyzes them.

P.O.8. Analyzes the transformation of modern Turkish literature from the Tanzimat era to the present in historical, sociological, cultural, and aesthetic contexts; compares formal and thematic differences among literary genres.

P.O.9. Develops opportunities to compare Turkish literature and culture with world literatures and cultures; conducts interdisciplinary and intercultural literary comparisons and gains an interdisciplinary perspective.

P.O.10. Identifies the types and forms of Turkish folk literature from its origins; gains insight into the works of folk poets and authors through the centuries.

P.O.11. Learns basic concepts, theories, and methods in folklore studies; recognizes, analyzes, and discusses the written and oral sources of Turkish cultural history.

P.O.12. Possesses the competence to perceive, critique, think about, and evaluate how a literary text should be analyzed.

P.O.13. Has knowledge of Atatürk’s Principles and Reforms and adopts the Kemalist system of thought.

P.O.14. Achieves a level of foreign language proficiency sufficient to read and understand academic works written in English in the field.

P.O.15. Conducts interdisciplinary studies by using data from various disciplines within the social sciences to approach cultural phenomena comprehensively.

P.O.16. Develops a positive attitude toward lifelong learning.

P.O.17. Uses artificial intelligence and digital technologies innovatively in literary research, creative writing, and teaching processes; develops technology-assisted methods of literary production and analysis.

P.O.18. Develops creative expression, empathy, and collaboration skills to interpret literary texts within the context of individual–society relations; expresses ideas effectively through digital and oral presentation techniques.

P.O.19. Associates literary texts with the themes of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); develops social, environmental, and cultural awareness, and perceives literature as a tool for social transformation.
