The 2024-2025 Academic Year "Academic Staff Performance Evaluation Process" will be completed between September 15-19, 2025.
The academic staff performance evaluation process is one of the most critical elements of quality assurance systems. This is because the quality of education-teaching, research, and social contribution activities in universities directly depends on the performance of the academic staff. In this context, its importance can be summarized under a few headings:
Ensuring the Quality of Education and Teaching
The lesson preparation, teaching methods, assessment-evaluation practices, and student guidance activities of academic staff are fundamental indicators of quality processes.
Regular performance evaluations allow monitoring the up-to-dateness of course contents, the effectiveness of teaching methods, and student satisfaction.
Thus, teaching activities are developed within a continuous improvement cycle (Plan–Do–Check–Act).
Monitoring Research and Publication Performance
The scientific publications, projects, and citation counts of academic staff determine the research quality of the university.
Performance evaluation monitors whether research activities are aligned with the strategic goals of the institution.
This process also contributes to the fair and effective distribution of research supports (BAP, TÜBİTAK, etc.).
Contribution to Institutional Strategic Goals
Most of the quality objectives in universities' strategic plans are directly related to the effectiveness of the academic staff.
The performance evaluation process measures the alignment of the individual contributions of academic staff with the institution's vision and mission.
In this way, alignment between individual goals and institutional goals is ensured.
Transparency and Accountability
Transparency and accountability are at the forefront in quality assurance systems.
When conducted with objective criteria, academic staff performance evaluation reinforces the sense of fairness and increases internal trust within the institution.
At the same time, it is an important indicator for the institution in YÖKAK (Higher Education Quality Board) evaluations.
Mechanism for Development and Improvement
Academic performance evaluation is not only a “measurement” tool but also a development-focused feedback process.
Academics can plan their careers by seeing their strengths and areas for improvement.
The institution can also use this data to design in-service training programs, academic incentives, and support mechanisms.
Contribution to National and International Accreditation Processes
National and international accreditation bodies consider the competence and performance of academic staff as a fundamental criterion among quality measures.
Systematically conducting the performance evaluation process stands out as a strong point for the university in accreditation processes
