About the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme

Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme was launched on 27 November 1989 with the aim of building a strong bridge between Türkiye and the European Union (EU). Since sending off its first group of scholars to EU member states in 1990, the Programme has, over the past 35 years, evolved into a journey that has left a lasting impact not only on Türkiye–EU relations but also on the lives of individuals. Today, the 35-year legacy of Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme stands as a symbol of both personal achievements and the lasting friendships formed between societies. As a well-established initiative designed to support Türkiye’s EU accession process, the programme has become a highly regarded and increasingly valuable opportunity. It is built on the principles of fairness, transparency, and objectivity, ensuring that scholars are selected carefully from among the most qualified, successful, and wellequipped candidates in their fields. With over 3,000 scholars having studied at leading European universities, the programme has played a key role in strengthening mutual understanding, breaking down prejudices, and creating long-term friendships between Türkiye and Europe. Through the strong connections it has established, Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme contributes not only to official diplomacy but also to meaningful people-to-people relations. As one of the most prestigious educational opportunities supporting Türkiye’s EU accession process, the programme has also given its scholars the role of informal ambassadors.

The programme is announced every year through a notice published on its website.
