PASSING GRADES AND GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) FOR GRADUATION PASSING GRADES AND GPA

RE: In accordance with the decision of the Senate (2012/04, Meeting No.: 4 - 28.03.2012), for Master’s and Doctorate programs of the Institute of Social Sciences of Cag University, the decision below has been made.    

Passing Grade:   

a)     For Master’s Programs;

  • 1-     In accordance with Cag University Graduate Degree Education and Examination Regulation, passing grade for a course is DC (60-69 = 1.50), and in order to graduate, GPA must be 2.00 or higher. For thesis master’s programs, passing grade is required for 7 courses taken, and letter grade of the course ‘Seminar’ (non-credit) must be ‘S’. For non-thesis master’s programs, passing grade is required for 9 courses taken and the course of ‘Seminar’ (credit), and letter grade of the course ‘Term Project’ must be ‘S’.
  • 2-     Students who wish to increase their GPA to 2.00 or a higher grade even if their GPA is sufficient to graduate may take one or more courses opened in the relevant semester. In this case, the recent letter grade is in effect.    

b)    For Doctorate Programs;

  • (1) To be able to take the proficiency test, the minimum letter grade is CC  (70-74 = 2.00), minimum GPA for graduation is BB (80-84); which equals to 3.00/4.00. For letter grades of CC or below, the relevant courses may be taken again.
  • 2-     Students who wish to increase their GPA to 3.00 or a higher grade may take one or more courses opened in the relevant semester. In this case, the recent letter grade is in effect.

DD - 1.00 (50-59), 

FD - 0.50 (40-49), 

FF - 0.00 (00-39), 

NA - NOT ATTENDED, 

U - UNSUCCESSFUL. 

 

Notes:

  • For thesis master’s programs, in order to start thesis writing stage, 7 courses (7*3 credits = 21 credits) must be passed with passing grades of DC (1.50-60.00) or higher;  Minimum GPA must be 2.00, and the grade letter of Seminar (non-credit) must be ‘S’. Moreover, minimum ALES score of 55.000 is required. For the students of the programs of Psychology, Business Management, Private/Public Law, Health Care Management; the courses within the scope of Scientific Preparation Program must be passed with the passing grade of DC-1.50-60.00. The grades received for the courses taken within the scope of scientific preparation program do not have an effect on GPA.

 

  • In order to complete non-thesis master’s programs: 9 courses + 1 Seminar course (10*3 credits = 30 credits) must be passed with passing grades of DC or higher; Minimum GPA must be 2.00, and the grade letter of ‘Term Project (non-credit)’ must be ‘S’. For the students of the programs of Psychology, Business Management, Private/Public Law, Health Care Management; the courses within the scope of Scientific Preparation Program must be passed with the passing grade of DC-1.50-60.00. The grades received for the courses taken within the scope of scientific preparation program do not have an effect on GPA.

 

  • In order to complete Business Management PhD program, the passing grades for 14 courses (credited) must be CC or higher; Minimum GPA must be 3.00; ALES Exam and Foreign Language Exam Scores must be higher than 55.00, and PhD proficiency exam must be passed successfully. During thesis stage, three thesis monitoring exams must be passes successfully and oral examination (thesis defense) must be passed successfully. In case the number of courses increases, general conditions related to graduation shall be amended.

 

  • In order to complete English Language Teaching PhD program, the passing grades for 8 courses (credited) must be CC or higher; Minimum GPA must be 3.00; ALES Exam and Foreign Language Exam Scores must be higher than 55.00, and PhD proficiency exam must be passed successfully. During thesis stage, three thesis monitoring exams must be passes successfully and oral examination (thesis defense) must be passed successfully.
